Richland

It is OH SO NICE here on the eastside of Washington. Apparently it is sunny 300 days of the year. :)

Internship Day #3

Today a patient shared a beautiful verse from Psalm 34:18..."The Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit."

He told me that he used to be a missionary and that current family circumstances made him alone in this world. I know you aren't suppose to cry, but I did...and it only made me realize more how much I want to work in inpatient rehab...so I can really get to know these patients and let them touch a part of my heart.

Internship Day #2

WIPED OUT!
9 1/2 hour day today. Fortunately, I did see some pretty neat stuff like a patient being extubated; a lady, after  a week of not being able to sit, doing it; and a sternal incision (after open heart surgery).

So busy only 10 min lunch standing up. >.<

Internship Day #1

Today was day #1. Today:
  • I got to help get a patient get up from supine --> sitting, after she had laid in bed for 2 weeks. :)
  • I got my $20 stipend for lunch. Yay for not having to worry about packing a lunch!
  • I bought my blue scrubs...so that in case C. difficile were to fall onto my nice clothes, I wouldn't have to throw it away. I could just chuck the scrubs.
  • I met my kind and knowledgeable clinical instructors (CI's) and found out I get to work in BOTH acute & inpatient rehab (IPR).
  • I answered all the questions directed at me correctly...let's hope this continues @.@
  • I ate lunch at 3pm because...you know...the hospital is HECTIC!
  • I praise God for setting up this internship and understanding that His plan is greater than any I could imagine. :)

Richland Day #3

As my mom and Jim can attest to, the sun, in all its blazing glory, decides each morning at 5am to rise up and light up the sky. It's really awesome for the trees, birds, insects, la-de-dah...as for me, who really enjoys sleeping until 7 or 8 am (not 5:51am this morning...a'hem!) is it not so great.

Fortunately, Wal-Mart sells 99% light blocking curtains. While not exactly big enough, let's hope this works. Stay tuned... :)
